For Prerna Mehra (2007 Batch) Apeejay School, Saket, was more than just an academic institution – it was the place where her journey of creativity, confidence, and leadership began. Now a successful pastry chef and entrepreneur, she has come full circle by choosing the Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, GK-II for her child’s education. In a warm and candid conversation, Prerna shares how Apeejay shaped her values, nurtured her talents, and continues to be a part of her life journey. Read edited excerpts:

What made you choose Apeejay Institute again for your child’s education?

My husband and I are both proud alumni of Apeejay School, Saket. We had such a positive experience there – be it the school environment, the value system, or the personal connections – that choosing Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, GK-II for our son was a natural decision. It feels safe and familiar, like coming back home.

Can you share some of your fondest school memories?

One of the fondest memories is that I met my husband during our school days! Besides that, I was very active in extracurricular activities – skating, drama, dance – you name it. I was also part of the prefectorial board in Class 11 and 12. Those leadership experiences shaped me in many ways.

How did your school years influence your personality and career path?

Apeejay really encouraged my creativity. I was always the one asking, “What’s next?” That mindset has carried into my career. Even though I started in HR after completing an MBA, my creative side eventually took over and led me to become a professional pastry chef.

Tell us about your transition from HR to baking.

I worked in HR for five years but always enjoyed baking – it started as a childhood passion. Eventually, I pursued a formal course at the Academy of Pastry and Culinary Arts. I worked in the hotel industry and later started my own business, Batter Up by Prerna Mehra. Now, I cater to both B2B and B2C clients with cheesecakes, brownies, and more.

What advice would you give to students who want to follow a creative path like yours?

Follow your passion. If you believe in your skills, go for it – even if it means changing direction later in life. Quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction are key. Love what you do, and success will follow.
