Leadership, creativity, and responsibility – these were the pillars of Saharsh Bhardwaj’s journey as a student leader at Apeejay School, Noida. Saharsh was not only a school prefect but also the Head of the Cultural Committee. In this conversation, he opens up about his experiences, learnings, and what it truly means to lead from the front.
Saharsh, how did you come to take up the role of a prefect at Apeejay School, Noida?
I actually applied for the Head Boy position. It was a competitive process – I made it to the principal’s round along with two others. Eventually, one of them was selected as the Head Boy, while the other and I were appointed as prefects. I was given the responsibility of heading the Cultural Committee. It was a proud moment!
As the Head of the Cultural Committee, what were your responsibilities?

My role involved encouraging students to participate in co-curricular activities, shortlisting candidates for events, training them for performances, and overall coordination. I particularly remember the skit we organised for Founder’s Day. I mentored students personally, helped refine their scripts, and guided their voice modulation and expressions to make the performances impactful.
How did you train students for theatre and dramatics?
It was more of a one-on-one interaction. Students would bring their scripts to me – I’d listen to their performances and then guide them on how to emote better. For instance, I’d suggest when to raise or lower their voice, add dramatic pauses, and increase the emotional impact of certain lines. It was like directing a mini play.
What advice would you give to students aspiring to be part of the prefectorial board?
Go for it! It’s a great decision. Being a prefect teaches you time management, leadership, and responsibility. You learn to juggle academics, competitive exam prep, and leadership duties. It shapes you into a multitasker and a more confident person.
What was your biggest takeaway from this experience?
I learned how to bridge the gap between teachers and students, and how to mentor juniors – something I’ll need in college clubs and later in the workplace. This was just a trailer. The real movie begins in the future!
