Exploring Mathematics beyond textbooks 

National Mathematics Day, observed annually on December 22, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, to commemorate the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The day served as a reminder that mathematics is not merely a subject of numbers and formulas but a powerful discipline that nurtures logical reasoning, creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills essential for life.

The celebrations were organised under the visionary guidance of the school Principal, Mr Yashpal Sharma, Vice-principal, Ms Aarti Shorey Bhat, and the able mentorship of the Head of the Mathematics Department, Mr Naresh Marwaha. The Mathematics Department, comprising Ms Meenu Dhingra, Ms Shivani Kalra, Ms Nidhi Sharma, Ms Deeba Duggal, Ms Geeta, Ms Nandini Lath, and Ms Amanpreet, curated a series of engaging and intellectually stimulating activities that brought mathematics alive beyond the classroom.

Students from various classes participated enthusiastically in mathematical quizzes, poster and chart making, mathematical art and pattern creation, portraits of renowned mathematicians, puzzles, bookmarks, calligraphy, and quote writing. The celebrations were further enriched through interactive mathematics talks and PowerPoint presentations, where students showcased the relevance of mathematical concepts in real-life situations. These activities encouraged learners to view mathematics as a creative and dynamic subject rather than a rigid academic discipline.

The event provided a vibrant platform for students to explore the aesthetic beauty of mathematics, express their creativity, and deepen their conceptual understanding. Through hands-on participation, students experienced how mathematics develops patience, analytical thinking, and resilience, teaching them to approach challenges with confidence and curiosity.

The Principal appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Mathematics Department and applauded the enthusiastic involvement of the students. He encouraged learners to continue nurturing a spirit of inquiry and innovation, emphasising the importance of mathematics in shaping future-ready individuals.
