The Department of Home Science at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar organised an informative guest lecture on the theme “Personalised Diet Counselling”, drawing enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students. The session aimed to enhance awareness about the role of nutrition in addressing modern lifestyle-related health concerns and encouraging healthier living practices.

Speaking about the significance of such academic engagements, Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra emphasised that in today’s fast-paced world, individuals across both youth and middle-age groups are increasingly facing a range of health challenges. She highlighted the importance of creating informed spaces where individuals can better understand their dietary needs and health concerns.

Dr. Dhingra remarked that thoughtfully curated academic interactions help promote informed living and empower people to reassess their dietary habits. She further noted that such initiatives foster open dialogue around health-related issues and encourage both students and educators to adopt holistic approaches to well-being. According to her, educational institutions play a crucial role in nurturing awareness about balanced lifestyles and inspiring individuals to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.

The session featured Ms. Vaishali Gupta, a renowned Clinical Dietitian and Nutritionist, as the resource person. Addressing the topic “Personalised Diet Counselling for Health Concerns and Lifestyle,” she shared valuable insights into several health issues that are becoming increasingly common among both young and middle-aged individuals.

During her lecture, Ms. Gupta highlighted prevalent health conditions such as PCOD, insulin resistance, weight gain, anaemia, and unhealthy weight loss, explaining how these concerns are often linked to poor dietary habits, sedentary lifestyles, and increasing stress levels. She stressed that many of these health challenges can be effectively prevented or managed through a well-balanced and nutritious diet.

Emphasising the importance of discipline in maintaining good health, she encouraged students to adopt mindful eating habits and combine them with regular physical activity. She also underscored the need for greater nutritional awareness, urging participants to include protein-rich foods in their daily meals for improved energy levels and overall health.

A key takeaway from her session was the concept of “Eat Local and Stay Global,” which promotes the consumption of locally available and seasonal foods while maintaining awareness of global nutrition practices. According to her, adopting such sustainable dietary choices not only supports better health but also contributes to long-term well-being.

Ms. Gupta also explained how mindful food choices can play a significant role in managing conditions such as diabetes, highlighting that small yet consistent lifestyle changes can lead to significant improvements in health outcomes.

The interactive session provided students with an opportunity to ask questions and gain clarity on various nutrition-related concerns. Their enthusiastic participation reflected a keen interest in understanding the connection between diet, lifestyle, and overall wellness.

Appreciating the initiative, Principal Dr. Dhingra commended Dr. Monica Anand, Head of the Department of Home Science, for successfully organising the lecture and providing a meaningful learning experience for students and faculty members alike.

The lecture proved to be both informative and inspiring, reinforcing the importance of personalised nutrition and encouraging participants to adopt healthier and more mindful lifestyles.
