To commemorate World Intellectual Property Day, the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell of Apeejay School of Management (ASM), Dwarka organised a seminar on the theme “Intellectual Property Rights: Protecting Innovation and Research”. The seminar aimed to raise awareness about the importance of intellectual property in a knowledge-driven economy and equip participants with insights into the evolving IP landscape.

The event featured two distinguished speakers from academia and legal practice, offering participants a balanced perspective on both the theoretical and practical aspects of intellectual property rights. Dr. Ihtiram Raza Khan, Professor at Jamia Hamdard, opened the seminar with a compelling presentation on how emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and blockchain are reshaping the intellectual property ecosystem. Dr. Khan highlighted how these technologies are not only democratising access to knowledge but also enhancing the mechanisms for IP protection in the digital age. His session emphasised the need for evolving IP frameworks to keep pace with rapid technological advancements and foster inclusive innovation.
Following this, Ms. Surbhi Kohli, Principal Associate – Legal at eMinds Legal, delivered an informative session that delved deep into the legal intricacies of intellectual property rights, particularly focusing on copyright and patent law. Through real-life case studies and practical examples, Ms. Kohli explained the compliance mechanisms and legal procedures involved in protecting innovation. Her talk was especially beneficial for those interested in the operational aspects of IP, such as documentation, filing, and infringement litigation.
The seminar received an enthusiastic response from faculty members, who appreciated the depth and relevance of the discussions. It served as a timely platform to initiate dialogue on safeguarding creative and innovative work in today’s rapidly evolving business and technological environments. Dr. Nikita Dhankar, Assistant Professor (Operations) at ASM, remarked, “The seminar offered a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic IP landscape, particularly concerning emerging technologies.”

Organized by Dr. Ishita Adhikari, Convener of the IPR Cell at ASM, the seminar successfully bridged the gap between academia and practice. It reinforced the importance of intellectual property literacy among faculty and students alike, equipping them to better navigate the legal and strategic dimensions of innovation.
The event concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing keen interest in further workshops and sessions on specialised IP topics. Overall, the seminar proved to be an intellectually enriching experience, fostering a deeper appreciation for the critical role of intellectual property in research and development.
