Mrs. Prabhjot Singh, currently a homemaker, is a teacher by profession. She taught English to class 6, 7 and 8 students at Green Fingers Global School, Kharghar. Her son Shubhkarmun Singh is a class 8 student at Apeejay School, Kharghar. In an interview, Mrs. Singh highlights how every student gets an equal chance to participate in the various extracurricular competitions and events at the school. Edited excerpts:

Why did you choose Apeejay Kharghar over other schools for your child’s admission?

When we shifted to Kharghar in 2009, we got our elder son Harmandeep Singh enrolled at Apeejay Kharghar in class 1. He graduated last year from the school (the batch of 2021). During his stay at the school, we got to know about the various kinds of activities that the school organises for its students and the overall personality development plan of the students. Students get many such good opportunities at Apeejay Kharghar. We wanted our younger son to get the same environment, so we enrolled him in Apeejay School Kharghar as well. Shubhkarmun has been an Apeejay Kharghar student since class Nursery.

Please tell us a bit about Shubhkarmun and take us through his progress at school?

Shubhkarmun is performing excellently at school. He is an academically inclined person. He isn’t much into sports. He likes to draw and  is into computers. He is good in all the subjects but he loves Science and Maths a bit more. He loves to read and is reading Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter these days.

Are the teachers engaging well with the students?

Yes, surely they are. All the teachers are putting in a lot of effort for the students. They are very cooperative and they guide the students very well.  We, as parents, don’t even have to look into the studies of our children. Whatever is taught at school, we are pretty sure that the students don’t need any further guidance in that. They are capable enough, for they get to know everything from the teachers. The teachers clear all their doubts very patiently. Each and every concept is crystal clear to the students. We feel that they don’t need us to help them in their studies.

What is the best thing about the school?

The best thing is that it is not the case that only one or two particular students get an opportunity to perform at a competition or event. The teachers at Apeejay Kharghar feel that every child should get the same opportunity to participate. So it is never the case that the same student is going for all the competitions. The school prefers that different students come up. Equal opportunities are given to everybody at Apeejay Kharghar.

How has the experience of the online classes been for Shubhkarmun?

Initially, both my sons found it a bit tiresome but eventually they got used to it. Even during the online classes the teachers prepared so many videos. They encouraged the students to prepare and make presentations in the class. Students also made skits on many different topics even on topics of science. The teachers even showed the science experiments live, so it was very engaging and interactive. The students never felt they were not in the school. So many projects were given to the students. It was a really good experience.
