College isn’t just about attending lectures and graduating; it’s a space that provides ample opportunities to explore, realize, and manifest your dreams. After completing his Bachelor’s in Mass Communication (BJMC) he went on to pursue post-graduation in Corporate Communications and Event Management at Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication. Meet Lokesh Saini, who has a strong knack for building networks and today works in the PR industry.

In a candid interview, he highlights how AIMC played a crucial role in refining his skills, encouraging him to chalk out a career in PR.

Tell us about yourself.

I am a social person and love to go out and meet people. I have worked as a management trainee for three months. With a strong foundation in strategic communication during my management trainee days, I worked in companies dealing with FMCG, EdTech, Energy, and Technology. I am proud of my ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with people. I have successfully secured numerous media opportunities, contributing to enhanced brand visibility and reputation for our clients.

What inspired you to pursue a career in public relations?

They always say, ‘You must do what you love’, abiding by the same, I joined PR because I enjoy establishing and sustaining relationships, developing effective communication strategies, and influencing public perception of various companies. I felt motivated by a strong push for storytelling, strategic thinking, and the dynamic nature of public image management.

What skills from your college days have proven to be most valuable?

During my college days, I spent considerable time and effort refining my communication skills. I actively sought opportunities to engage in various forms of communication, including written and verbal expression. This helped hone my abilities. While I was studying at AIMC, I participated in extracurricular activities like public speaking events, debate clubs, and student organisations, all of which played a pivotal role in enhancing my communication skills.

Can you share a memorable campaign you worked on and what you learnt from it?

During the brand case study at AIMC, we were asked to launch a new hypothetical ‘Chef on the Go‘. For that, we planned an event activation campaign. It was fun since it engaged people in the art of assembling the ingredients to make a dish. We were divided into groups and were asked to craft customised dishes with the help of given ingredients like corn, cucumber, tomato, and onion to name a few ingredients.

This campaign is dear to my heart and it will always be remembered. This not only helped me explore something new but I learnt that even if you don’t know about something, you must try it. You never know, what, how, and when your luck will change for the better.

Were there any extracurricular activities in college that helped shape your professional path?

I was a member of the ‘We Care Film Festival,’ group. I took charge of managing all aspects related to the visual ambiance. I meticulously planned, selected, and arranged decor elements to craft an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere for the attendees.

I was also associated with coordinating with specially-abled children who were invited to the event. Post this experience, I took over the responsibility of addressing their unique needs and ensuring a positive and inclusive experience for them. This participation helped me widen my horizons to a great extent.

What advice would you give to aspiring students looking to maximize their college experience?

Your college years are not just about grades; they’re an opportunity to build skills and experiences that will shape your career. You must embrace this journey with enthusiasm and a commitment to personal and professional growth.
