Co-scholastic activities give students the space to explore their interests, learn discipline, and build confidence beyond academics. They shape character in ways the classroom alone cannot, helping young learners grow into well-rounded individuals. Meet one such student, Udhav Parbhakar, a Class VII student at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi.
In a candid interview, he shares how, apart from studies, he enjoys playing football and badminton. These two games keep him active and happy.
What first drew you to football, and how has the sport become part of your daily routine?
I started playing football casually in the neighbourhood park. Slowly, I began improving and realised how much I enjoyed the game. That made me join a football academy. Now it has become a fixed part of my routine. I go to the academy every day from 6:30 to 8 pm, and practising regularly has become something I look forward to.
Which position do you enjoy playing the most, and what makes it a good fit for your style of play?
I play as a striker because my coach assigned me that position. Over time, I started enjoying it because it matches the way I like to move and attack. I feel comfortable and confident playing there.
How has football helped you grow outside the field?
Football has become a part of my life. If I miss even a single day, it feels like something is incomplete. Playing every day has made me more confident. Earlier, I was very shy, but football has helped me open up and believe in myself.
Challenges while balancing academics with football practice. How do you manage them?
In the beginning, I struggled a lot. My notebooks were incomplete, and I felt tired after returning from the academy. But with time, my stamina improved. Now I manage my studies and practice properly.
What goals do you have as a football player this year?
My dream is to play at the international level. I have already played at the national, state and district levels, and I want to keep working hard to reach the next stage.
