With the English exam out of the way, Humanities students would have five days before they take the Geography exam on March 2, 2023. Almost everyone will tell you that to score a centum in this subject is probably the easiest. Students who scored a 100 in the previous Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) say that it is neither difficult nor cakewalk to score 100 in Geography. Students just have to keep in mind some essential things during preparation and while attempting the exam.

According to Shilpa Maitra, a Geography teacher at Apeejay School, Faridabad with only a few days left for the exam, it is important for the students to spend the next five days reading the subject’s NCERT book. “Read each chapter two-three times very carefully. The CBSE prepares the questions based on the NCERT book alone,” Maitra said and shared some last-minute tips that can help students in their revision.

Be calm and think positively while reading the question paper. Don’t panic and get nervous. Write the answers neatly preferably in a chronological manner marking the question attempted clearly. Don’t leave any questions unattended.

Here are some dos and don’ts

1.       Instead of wasting time on rote learning, students must understand the concepts of each chapter. This exercise needs to be done with the help of the mind map that the students must have been taught by their respective class teachers during lectures.

2.       Revise all the assignments (especially Apeejayites) the students have given in the class after the lesson has been done.

3.       Attempt all the Geography Board exam question papers for the last five years. One question paper to be solved every day in the coming days. This will help the students understand how to attempt them; get the same checked by the subject teacher.

4.       Understand the marking scheme and the word limit that the student needs to write with each question. DO NOT exceed the word limit.

5.       Practice the map work. Students can score full marks here but this will only be possible with practice. The CBSE has listed the chapters and the topics that they need to study for map work – stick to it. Although there is map work with each chapter, the CBSE has specified the map in its curriculum that the students need to know.

6.       Practice the sample question papers that the school may have given to its students.

7.       Be calm and think positively while reading the question paper. Don’t panic and get nervous. Write the answers neatly preferably in a chronological manner marking the question attempted clearly. Don’t leave any questions unattended.

8.       The question paper is not very complicated. Except for four-five questions that are worded differently to confuse the students, the paper is not tough.

9.       To get the MCQs, knowledge of the entire book is a must.

10.   Time management is necessary. The question paper is not lengthy provided the students attempt it with a cool head. 11.   Eat a healthy diet. Students should eat home-cooked food for the duration of their exams. Get seven-eight hours of sleep a day before the exam.

All the best!
