In today’s rapidly evolving financial landscape, pursuing Chartered Accountancy (CA) continues to be one of the most sought-after career paths for Commerce students. With its rigorous curriculum and globally recognised stature, the CA qualification opens doors to a range of professional opportunities—from audit and taxation to corporate finance and consultancy. In the era of Artificial Intelligence, the role of CAs is becoming even more significant. As automation handles routine tasks, future-ready CAs will play a critical role in guiding businesses with human intelligence, ethical judgment, and analytical depth.

Meet Fiza Masoun, a Class XII student at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, who is all set to make her mark as a CA. In a candid interview, she shares why she is passionate about this field.

What made you choose Commerce as your stream?

Both my parents are Chartered Accountants, and even my grandfather is in the same field. So, from my childhood, I’ve been interested in accounts. That naturally made me inclined towards Commerce. I plan to do a correspondence BCom and simultaneously prepare for CA.

Do you have a strategy in mind for managing both?

Yes. I’ve chosen correspondence B.Com because it will save time, and during weekdays I’ll attend online classes. Also, having my parents as CAs will help — they guide me well.

What fascinates you about Accountancy?

I find numbers fascinating, especially learning about finances. No matter what field you choose —Science, Commerce, or Arts — finance is always relevant. So, understanding it is important.

Are you considering going abroad too?

Currently, I plan to complete CA in India. Later, I’m thinking of pursuing an MBA from abroad, though it’s not fully decided yet. Initially, I want to work for two to three years to gain experience. After that, I’ll consider starting something of my own, but I’m still figuring it out.

What challenges do you foresee in the journey to become a CA?

The main challenge could be staying focused while people around me might be having fun. But once I’ve decided on my goal, I believe I can stay focused and enjoy life later.

What advice would you give someone who wants to pursue CA?

They should be clear with their core subjects — Math and Accountancy. And most importantly, they need to be ready to work hard, day and night, to achieve the CA title. However, I don’t think there are specific traits required. If you have a strong interest in Accounts and Math, you can go for it.

With AI being used so widely now, do you think it will impact the role of Chartered Accountants?

AI can help CAs. For instance, bots are used in my mother’s corporate office for various processes. But AI can’t replace human intelligence completely. It can assist in identifying errors, but final decisions and deeper analysis will still require human insight.
