Throughout her years at Apeejay’s IB School,Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park, NiaLobo emerged as a dynamic and dependable leader. From her early involvement as a student council member to serving as Vice-head Girl and ultimately Head Girl of the prefectorial body, she left a lasting mark on the school community. Her role in the disciplinary committee cemented her reputation as an approachable, outgoing, and reliable senior among the graduating class of 2025. Beyond leadership, she embraced the academic rigour of the IB programme. The countless IAs, TOK essays, Extended Essay, and HL explorations sharpened her research, writing, and communication skills — preparing her to take on university challenges with confidence.
In a candid interview, she talks about the qualities she developed at the school.
How would you describe your school journey?
The IB curriculum was both rigorous and rewarding, constantly challenging me to test my abilities and adapt to new demands. It taught me independence, discipline, and time management, while also shaping me into a lifelong learner, curious, resilient, and unafraid to explore new ideas.
What qualities did you develop at school that continue to help you today in university?
Time management, independence, and strong research skills are the three key strengths I developed in school. These continue to support me in navigating the challenges of university life.
Were there any particular projects or teachers that deeply influenced your interest in environmental studies?
My Biology teacher had a significant influence on my interest in biology and the natural world. Beyond that, all my subject teachers encouraged values of empathy, responsibility, and stewardship, helping me appreciate the importance of protecting our planet, its resources, and its people.

Can you share some of the milestones?
Some milestones I hold dear include receiving the Dr Stya Paul Human Award for Human Values, serving on the disciplinary committee, being Head Girl of the prefectural body, and being recognised as the Student of the Year for the Class of 2025.
You recently received the Highest Achievers Award Scholarship for your university application. What does this achievement mean to you?
This scholarship was deeply meaningful to me, as it eased the financial strain of studying abroad and made the journey more feasible. More importantly, it came with an unconditional offer, which boosted my confidence and reaffirmed my belief that hard work truly pays off.
How has the school helped you grow?
The school has played a pivotal role in shaping me. With the support of teachers, peers, and juniors, I grew in confidence, communication, and knowledge. The school instilled humility, teamwork, and resilience, while giving me opportunities to lead, take risks, and learn from failure—preparing me for life beyond its gates.
Why did you choose the University of Queensland and the course Environmental Management (Honours)?
Australia’s rich biodiversity makes it an ideal place to study environmental sciences. The University of Queensland, ranked top 15 globally and number one in Australia, offered both excellence and credibility — while my personal fondness for the country added to the excitement of this choice.
How has the transition been from school to university life?
The transition has been stressful, exciting, and bittersweet. While nothing compares to the memories of home and high school, I find comfort in knowing the school’s orange gates will always welcome me back.
What are your career goals after completing your honours degree?
I aim to work in environmental consultancy either with a leading firm in Australia or back home in India where I can contribute to sustainable solutions and environmental protection.
What advice would you give current IB students who wish to pursue higher education abroad?
Studying abroad is an option, not a necessity, so make the decision thoughtfully. Don’t rush, taking a break before Semester 1 can ease your transition and help you form new friendships. Remember, high school is defined not just by grades, but by memories and bonds. While chasing your goals, pause to enjoy the journey, and above all, trust yourself, you’ve got this!
