Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, located near Gorumara National Park in the Dooars region of West Bengal, is a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. This sanctuary, covering 960 hectares, is renowned for its rich biodiversity and thriving elephant population. The area, bordered by the Murti River, provides opportunities for activities like angling and boating, making it a popular tourist destination.

Visitors to Chapramari can explore its dense forests and observe a variety of wildlife. The sanctuary is home to Indian bison (gaur), leopards, and various species of deer, including chital, sambar, and barking deer. Wild boars are commonly spotted, and lucky visitors may even catch a glimpse of the elusive one-horned rhinoceros.
A key attraction of Chapramari is its watchtower, which offers a stunning view of the landscape and serves as an ideal spot to observe both native and migratory birds. Birdwatchers can enjoy sightings of a wide range of species along the riverbanks.
Declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1998, Chapramari has since become a popular spot for tourists visiting the Dooars. Its tranquil surroundings, coupled with the opportunity to witness wildlife in their natural habitat, provide a refreshing escape from city life. The best time to visit is between November and March when the weather is pleasant and wildlife sightings are frequent.
For anyone visiting Dooars, Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary offers an unforgettable experience of nature’s beauty, combining adventure with serene moments in the midst of one of India’s most diverse ecosystems.
