With the CBSE Class XII 2026 exams approaching, students are gearing up for the Geography paper — a subject that rewards conceptual clarity, map knowledge, and presentation skills. To help learners prepare smartly, Ms Priya Rana, Geography Teacher at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, shared valuable study tips tailored for the 2026 exams.

Paper Format:

1. The question paper contains 30 questions. All questions are compulsory.

2. The question paper is divided into five sections. Sections – A, B, C, D and E.

3. Section A – Question number 1 to 17 are Multiple Choice type questions carrying 1 mark each.

4. Section B – Question number 18 and 19 are Source based questions carrying 3 marks each.

5. Section C – Question number 20 to 23 are Short Answer type questions carrying 3 marks each. Answers to these questions shall be written in 80 to 100 words.

6. Section D – Question number 24 to 28 are Long Answer type questions carrying 5 marks each. Answers to these questions shall be written in 120 to 150 words.

7. Section E – Question number 29 and 30 are Map based questions carrying 5 marks each.

Focus on Diagrams & Maps — Your “Bonus-Mark Multipliers”

Geography is a visual subject, and good diagrams can make a huge difference. “Well-drawn diagrams, neatly labelled maps, and clear presentation act like bonus-mark multipliers. They instantly show the examiner that the student understands concepts,” says Ms Rana.

She highlights that map work carries specific marks in CBSE Class 12th Geography, so students must allocate dedicated time for map practice. “Even if theory is average, a clean and accurate map can rescue your answer,” she adds.

Presentation Tips for Long Answers

To score well in the 2026 Board exam, your answers should be structured and readable.

Her checklist:

  • Begin with a short introduction defining the concept
  • Use clear subheadings such as Causes, Effects, Measures
  • Write in bullet points instead of bulky paragraphs
  • Underline keywords from the CBSE syllabus 2026
  • End with a one-line conclusion if time allows

Common Map-Work Mistakes to Avoid

According to Ms Rana, many marks are lost due to careless errors:

  • Misplacing rivers, states, dams, crops or minerals
  • Skipping labels, titles, or a proper legend/key
  • Untidy shading or wrong colours

Last 15 Days Strategy Before 2025 Exams

  • Revise high-weightage chapters first
  • Practice full papers every 1–2 days
  • 10–15 minutes of daily map practice
  • Follow active recall techniques & mind maps
Avoid new topics — stay confident with what’s prepared
Ensure proper sleep for better recall and writing speed
