The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has scheduled the Class XII exams for 2025 to be conducted from February 15, 2025, to April 4, 2025, in the traditional pen-and-paper format. The exams will open with the subject of Entrepreneurship and conclude with Psychology. The Board has also released the 2025 syllabus, outlining the critical chapters and topics that students must focus on.

According to Ms Aashima Sood, HoD Economics, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, it is important for students to not only understand the format of the question paper but also ensure that they don’t make silly mistakes on the day of the exam. For the same, the educator shared the format as well as a few study tips that can help students score well.

“There are four short answer type questions of 3 marks each, requiring responses between 60 to 80 words. The paper also includes six short answer type questions of 4 marks each, to be answered in 80 to 100 words. Lastly, there are four long answer-type questions, each carrying six marks, with responses expected to be between 100 to 150 words,” the educator said.

Format of the question paper

The question paper will have two parts: Part A and Part B. Each part will include:

·         10 MCQs (1 mark each) from two different books: Macroeconomics and Economic Development.

·         Two 3-mark questions from each part.

·         Three 4-mark questions from each part.

·         Two 6-mark questions from each part.

The total marks for each part will be 40; for two parts – the maximum mark is 80. The question paper is for three hours.

Prep tips

1.       Students must plan their study schedule according to the time left before the exam.

2.       Oral revision is not effective; students should write down key points, important concepts, diagrams, and numerical problems for better retention.

3.       Students should attempt CBSE sample papers and past years’ question papers to understand the exam pattern. Some of these have been shared for Apeejay students on Moodle.

4.       Students must practice solving question papers within the three-hour exam duration to improve time management. They should attempt at least two to three sample papers and get them checked by teachers.

5.       Regularly discussing doubts and difficult concepts with teachers will help in better understanding, especially when it comes to assertion-reason questions. This will help students improve their analytical skills.

6.       Simply solving sample papers is not enough; students should get them checked by teachers to understand their mistakes.

7.       Lack of proper sleep and nutrition affects concentration. Students should maintain a healthy routine for better focus during exams.

5 mistakes to avoid

1.       Students should allocate their time according to the weightage of questions. A three-mark question should not take too much time, as this might lead to incomplete answers for long questions.

2.       Many students overlook instructions such as “explain with a diagram and a table.” Not including these elements may lead to a loss of marks.

3.       Answers should be written according to word limits (e.g., if the question asks for 200 words, students should stick to that range).

4.       If students do not know the answer to the first question, they should not stress. Instead, they should move on to the next question and return later if time allows.

5.       Do not make mistakes while numbering the question being attempted.
