On May 13, 2025, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the much-awaited Class 12 exam results, registering a modest rise in the overall pass rate. Out of 17,04,367 registered students, 16,92,794 appeared for the exams, and 14,96,307 passed, recording an overall pass percentage of 88.39%.
Among the lakhs of students who cleared the exams are young individuals who battled personal setbacks and pressures, yet emerged stronger, setting exemplary milestones for their peers. Meet Varun Bamba and Anshika Bhattacharya from Apeejay Svran Global School, Faridabad, Sector 21-D.
In an impromptu interview, they share their study strategy, among other things.
Varun, who beat the odds with sheer determination, was bedridden for four months, but scored 89%. “I had Physics, Chemistry, and Math, diagnosed with a severe health condition, studying for the Boards was challenging. “So, I was truly shocked and amazed when I saw my result,” Varun recalled. “Given my situation, I never imagined I would perform this well. But seeing my marks, and more importantly, seeing the joy on my parents’ faces, made it all worthwhile.”
He kept this study approach simple yet focused. He relied primarily on the notes provided by his teachers, the NCERT textbooks, and select reference books. “It’s easy to get overwhelmed by too many resources. I made sure to stick to the prescribed syllabus in the NCERT, especially since CBSE has reduced the syllabus now. Studying what’s important saves both time and confusion,” he explained.
Maintaining a daily routine of six to seven hours of study, Varun admitted that the thought of appearing for the exams after such a long illness made him anxious. However, the unwavering support of his teachers, parents, and friends kept him motivated. “Their belief in me made all the difference,” he said.
Anshika, who scored 87%, credits her success to disciplined self-study and the support of her school teachers. Notably, Anshika prepared for the Boards without any tuition, relying entirely on school resources and her efforts.
“I had Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and have already given the NEET exam. I’m now preparing for CUET and other competitive exams,” she shared. Her study strategy was straightforward — complete the syllabus thoroughly, focus on key concepts, and practice extensively with sample papers and previous years’ question papers.
“I trusted my school teachers completely. They were always available to clear my doubts, whether it was Chemistry or Physics. That gave me the confidence to prepare on my own,” she said.
The pressure of the Board exams took its toll, and there were moments when she felt overwhelmed. “There were times when I had panic attacks. But I reminded myself that all my hard work would eventually bear fruit. That thought kept me going. Also, my parents were incredibly supportive. I never felt alone in this journey.”
Her message to students preparing for next year’s Boards is filled with optimism: “Believe in yourself. Don’t let self-doubt hold you back. Once you give it your best effort, you will find that you can overcome even the toughest obstacles.”
