The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the schedule for submitting the List of Candidates (LOC) for the Class 10 second board examinations to be held in May 2026. This second examination is part of the two-board exam system introduced under the National Education Policy 2020, offering students an opportunity to improve their performance in up to three subjects.
According to the official notification, the LOC submission process will be conducted in multiple phases. The first phase will take place from March 18 to March 31, 2026, during which schools must upload candidate details. Fee payment for this phase will be completed within five days after the declaration of results. The second phase will begin immediately after the results are announced and will remain open for five days, with the same timeline for fee submission. A third phase, with a late fee, will be available for two days starting from the seventh day after the result declaration. The submission portal will remain accessible until 11:59 pm on the last date of each phase.
CBSE has instructed school principals to ensure that students and parents are well-informed about the rules governing the second examination. This includes eligibility criteria, fee payment procedures, and the possibility of being allotted examination centres away from their home location, with no option for changes once assigned.
Schools have been advised to encourage interested students to register in the first phase to facilitate better planning, although final decisions may also be taken after results during the second phase. Students placed in the compartment category must submit a fresh LOC, as their subject requirements may differ.
To be eligible, students must have appeared in the main board examination in at least three subjects. Those who have passed can opt for improvement in up to three subjects, while compartment candidates can also apply. However, students who did not appear in three or more subjects will not be eligible and must reappear in the next main examination cycle.
CBSE has clarified that no new candidates can be added to the LOC, and changes in student details or subjects will generally not be permitted, except in specific cases as per board guidelines.
