He is, at present, studying in Class XI and has opted for Commerce at Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad. He was awarded the Pride of Apeejay for his Taekwondo achievements, and there are several! His interest in the sport began in Class III after being part of a summer camp. Since then, he has won over 50 medals – state, national and international competitions! Meet Yakshit Sharma, who, in a candid interview, shares a win that is close to his heart, among other things.
Tell us about yourself.

I am an international Taekwondo player. Recently, I won a Gold medal at the CBSE National Taekwondo Championship. Apart from Taekwondo, I also enjoy dancing and drawing in my free time.
How did you first get interested in Taekwondo?
I have always been interested in sports. During a school summer camp, Taekwondo was introduced as one of the activities. I found it interesting and decided to try it. After attending a few sessions, I developed a strong interest and asked my parents to find a Taekwondo academy for me.
How has the sport helped you personally?
It has helped me gain a lot of confidence. I used to be very shy, but now I am able to speak to people confidently. It has also made me mentally stronger and taught me how to handle pressure calmly.
A competition that is especially close to your heart.
The CBSE nationals are very special to me. In earlier competitions, I mainly performed Poomsae. The CBSE nationals were the first competition where I actually fought matches. I trained very hard for it and made many sacrifices. I trained twice a day and also went to the gym every night. For this competition, I even lost around five kg in a single day. I won a Bronze medal, and I was thrilled with my performance.
A competition that taught you an important lesson.
Yes, recently, at a Delhi State competition, there was a lot of unfair play. I was there without my coach, and the organisers were aware of that. It taught me an important lesson that wherever we go for competitions, we should always be accompanied by our coaches.
How do you balance studies and sports?
I have chosen Commerce, and my mother is a Commerce teacher. She helps me a lot, especially with subjects like Accounts and areas where I need extra support. This makes balancing both studies and sports easier for me.

What role has the school played in supporting your Taekwondo journey?
The sports teachers help with all the required documentation for CBSE competitions. The school also displays our achievements on the big screen, which motivates me to perform better. During annual functions, I have received awards and cash prizes, which inspire me to aim higher every year.
You were awarded the Pride of Apeejay for your achievements. How did that feel?
It felt really special. My mother told me that this award was made for students like me. When I was on stage, many teachers congratulated and hugged me. It was a very proud and memorable moment.
Who has been your biggest source of motivation throughout your journey?
My parents have been my biggest support system. My mother has travelled with me to several competitions, even going alone with me to places like Hyderabad. My father also accompanies me to competitions, often leaving his business aside. Their support motivates me to keep going.
