Her flawless strokes in the pool leave onlookers in awe, a testament to both her skill and dedication. The confidence and determination she exudes reflect the remarkable transformation she has undergone through swimming. Meet Vaibhavi Kaushik, a Class X student at Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, whose journey in the sport has shaped not only her physical abilities but also her personality.
In an engaging and candid interview, she shares how swimming became more than just a sport for her; it became a catalyst for building resilience, focus, confidence, and overall well-being, influencing every aspect of her life.
Share your recent achievements in swimming.
I was selected to compete in a state-level swimming competition, where I secured the third prize. This achievement reflects my hard work, consistent practice, and the guidance of my coaches. It has motivated me to continue improving my skills and striving for greater success in swimming.
How did you take the plunge into this sport?
I started taking swimming classes when I was in Class I and learnt the basics there. Later, from Class VIII, our school included swimming periods, which gave me more practice. In Class X, our teacher asked for students interested in swimming competitions. He encouraged me a lot, even though many others were more skilled than me, which motivated me to take the plunge into competitive swimming.
How has swimming honed your personality?
Swimming has strengthened my personality in many ways. It has made me more confident and physically stronger. Earlier, I used to get tired easily, but now I am more energetic and resilient. Swimming has also significantly reduced my stress, helped me stay calm, and improved my posture and overall physique.

How did your school support your journey?
My coaches are excellent; they helped me perfect my skills, gave me individual attention, and encouraged me greatly. The school also took me to various tournaments and competitions. All the teachers and coaches stood by me, providing constant support and motivation.
What are the challenges you faced?
In the beginning, I used to get very breathless while swimming and thought it might not be for me, but our coach encouraged me a lot. Managing studies, coaching, and exams alongside swimming was also challenging, but I created a proper schedule, and all my teachers supported me.
What are your plans?
I enjoy swimming, and it has greatly contributed to my growth; my future goals lie in a different field. Swimming will remain a passion and hobby rather than a professional pursuit.
