Meet Kairav Singh, a Class VIII student of Apeejay School, Sector-15, Faridabad. Recognised for his guitar talent as ‘Guitar-Talent in Tune’, he expresses his creativity through music, while his love of cricket keeps him energetic, disciplined, and balanced. Both hobbies contribute to his personal growth and a vibrant school life.

In an impromptu interview, he shares the kind of music that inspires him, among other things.

When did you start learning the guitar, and who motivated you?

I started learning the guitar in Class V. My mother motivated me to learn an instrument, believing it would help me grow confidently. Her encouragement made me explore music seriously, practise regularly, and discover how learning music can positively shape discipline and future opportunities ahead.

What kind of music inspires you the most?

I enjoy English songs the most because of their strong tunes and unique vibe. Music inspires me emotionally and helps me connect deeply with melodies. I also appreciate how different songs create moods, making guitar practice enjoyable, expressive, and refreshing after a busy school day.

How do you practise and improve your guitar skills?

To improve my skills, I regularly choose a song and learn its chords. Recently, I practised Sunflower by finding chords and singing along. Exploring new songs challenges me, improves coordination, builds confidence, and helps me understand rhythm, timing, and musical creativity better through consistent practice.

How do you balance music with your studies?

I manage studies and music by following a simple timetable. After returning from school, I practise guitar and then complete homework. This routine helps me stay organised, focus on academics, and still dedicate quality time to music without feeling stressed or overburdened during busy days.

Which music genres do you enjoy playing?

I prefer English music, but I also enjoy old Hindi songs from the 90s. Additionally, I like playing bhajans, which give me peace. Exploring different genres helps me become versatile, understand varied musical styles, and develop emotional depth as a guitarist and confident performer.

How do you feel while performing on stage?

Initially, I feel shy while performing on stage, but gradually I get tuned into the song. Once immersed, the fear fades away. Performing helps me express emotions freely, connect with audiences, and gain confidence through repeated stage experiences that strengthen my musical journey overall significantly.

What has been your biggest learning from music so far?

My biggest learning from music is overcoming stage fright. Regular performances helped me grow confident. I even won a competition at a farewell event in Hodel, which boosted my belief. Such experiences taught me courage, consistency, and the importance of self-belief in artistic pursuits ahead.

What are your future aspirations and advice for young musicians?

I see music as a possible passion, though time will decide. My advice to young musicians is to practise regularly and play only when they truly feel the mood. Music needs emotion, dedication, and patience; forcing it reduces joy and creativity for long-term artistic growth. I have also written and composed an inspiring song on life titled “Come Along,” which is featured on my YouTube channel, @Primz Kairav Singh Grewal. The song beautifully reflects my thoughts, emotions, and outlook on life.
