Basant Panchami celebration ‘Bahar’ in this Jalandhar College

Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar recently celebrated Basant Panchami ‘Bahar’ with immense zeal and enthusiasm. Organised by the Student Welfare Association and Youth Club, the festival was filled with vibrant activities and cultural expressions while marking the arrival of Spring and is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati..

The event commenced with a traditional worship ceremony dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom, knowledge, and arts. Faculty members, students, and dignitaries gathered to seek her blessings for academic and artistic pursuits. The sacred ritual set the tone for a day filled with creativity and joyful festivities.

A variety of engaging activities were organised, capturing the essence of Basant Panchami. The campus was adorned with colorful kites soaring high in the sky, as students enthusiastically participated in kite-flying and kite-decoration competitions. Art enthusiasts showcased their skills through portrait-making sessions, while jewelry stalls and fun games attracted large crowds. Adding to the festive spirit, food counters offered a delicious spread of traditional delicacies, enhancing the celebratory experience.

One of the highlights of the event was the presence of RJ Luveena, a proud alumna of ACFA, who infused the atmosphere with energy and excitement. Through interactive games and engaging conversations, she captivated the audience and made the event even more memorable.

Winners of the Competitions

The event featured several competitions that recognized and celebrated students’ talents. The winners of various categories were:

  • Best Traditional Attire: Harshita (BCA 6th Semester) & Sukhman Kaur (B. Design 4th Semester)
  • Kite-Flying Competition:
    • Sahil (B.Voc Data Science, 6th Semester) – Also awarded Best Kiter
    • Ritish (B.Com, 2nd Semester)
  • Kite Decoration Competition: Shivalika (BFA 6th Semester)

Further, Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, emphasised the significance of Basant Panchami, describing it as the ‘King of Seasons’ that brings positivity, new beginnings, and cultural vibrancy. She highlighted the importance of preserving such traditions and fostering a sense of community through celebrations. She also extended her heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Jagmohan Mago, Dr. Payal Arora, and Ms. Lovepreet Kaur for their dedication and efforts in organising a successful and memorable event.

The ‘Bahar’ celebration at ACFA was a perfect blend of tradition, creativity, and festivity. The event not only strengthened the cultural heritage of Basant Panchami but also provided students with an opportunity to showcase their talents and engage in meaningful interactions. With vibrant kites soaring high and spirits lifted, the celebration was a grand success, leaving behind cherished memories for all who participated.
