In the dynamic landscape of education, the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum stands as a beacon of holistic learning. It fosters an environment where students develop not only academically but also as well-rounded individuals. At the heart of this comprehensive approach lies the integration of art education, a powerful catalyst for unlocking creativity and fostering a deeper understanding of the world.
Apeejay International School (ASI), Panchsheel Park seamlessly intertwines the IB curriculum with a robust art education programme, recognising the intrinsic connection between intellectual growth and artistic expression. By emphasising the fusion of rigorous academic pursuits with the boundless realms of creativity, ASI not only prepares students for academic excellence but also equips them with the essential skills to navigate an increasingly complex world. This dynamic pairing serves as a cornerstone in shaping individuals who excel academically as well as emerge as innovative thinkers, problem solvers, and expressive communicators — a testament to the school’s commitment to providing an education that goes beyond textbooks and conventional boundaries.

As part of a captivating artistic extravaganza, ASI recently played host to an immersive art workshop tailored for both Middle-Years-Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) students. The luminary guiding this creative exploration was Ms Jayanti Moorthy, a distinguished visual artist, digital designer, and educator renowned globally for her ephemeral artwork.
Ms Moorthy’s illustrious career, marked by solo exhibitions in esteemed venues like Brown University, OED Gallery, and A.I.R. Gallery (NY), positioned her as the perfect catalyst for an event aimed at pushing artistic boundaries. The theme she ingeniously crafted for the workshop was ‘detachment,’ a concept challenging students to appreciate the journey of art creation over fixating solely on the final outcome.

Throughout the workshop, the expert illuminated the importance of embracing both creation and destruction, drawing on her experiences collaborating with various artists. Her anecdotes served as powerful illustrations of the symbiotic relationship between the birth and demise of art forms. The students were not passive observers; they were active participants, spurred on by Ms Moorthy’s encouragement to think beyond conventional boundaries and explore the vast realms of their creative potential.
With her adept skills, she coaxed the students into unleashing their inner Picassos, utilising positive affirmations like “You are an inborn artist” and “Your creativity knows no bounds.” In a departure from traditional teaching methods, she also introduced the students to ‘Kollam art,’ an age-old South Indian convention, expanding their horizons on diverse artistic forms.
The vibrant atmosphere during the workshop was palpable, with students enthusiastically running around, their faces adorned with splashes of vibrant paint, as they exchanged paintbrushes and ideas. The culmination of the event was marked by beaming smiles on every participant, reflecting a profound sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

Noteworthy during the event was the exemplary supervisory role played by Ms Kanika, the school’s art facilitator. Her guidance and assistance were instrumental in ensuring a seamless experience for the participating students, adding an extra layer of depth to their artistic journey.
The success of this transformative event was possible with the unwavering support and cooperation of the school’s principal and staff members. Their commitment to fostering a conducive environment for creative exploration played a pivotal role in making this workshop a resounding success. As the vibrant strokes of the workshop settle into the memories of the participants, ASI continues to shine as a beacon of artistic inspiration and innovation.
