Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, reaffirmed its commitment to experiential learning by organising a one-day workshop on photography and videography for its students. The workshop, organised by the Department of Applied Art, aimed to provide students with practical exposure to contemporary visual media practices and strengthen their understanding of photography as both an art form and a professional skill.

Titled “Master the Art of Capturing Moments of Togetherness,” the workshop was conducted by renowned filmmaker, photographer, and Master Trainer at Canon India, Naqsh Sharma. The session brought together students from various disciplines including Applied Art, B.Design Multimedia, Bachelor of Fashion and Textile, and Journalism, creating an interdisciplinary platform for creative exploration and learning.

During the session, Naqsh Sharma shared valuable insights from his professional journey and discussed the evolving role of photography in modern media and creative industries. He highlighted the importance of understanding the fundamentals of visual storytelling and explained how effective photography goes beyond simply clicking pictures. According to him, a powerful image captures emotion, context, and human connection, thereby creating a meaningful narrative.

Sharma elaborated on several important aspects of photography, including composition, fashion photography, and the effective use of natural light. He demonstrated how photographers can utilise lighting, angles, and framing to create visually striking images. A significant part of the discussion focused on capturing emotions during events such as weddings and social gatherings. He emphasised that the true essence of photography lies in observing subtle human expressions and transforming those moments into compelling visual stories.

Complementing the creative session, Rajat from Canon India introduced students to the technical aspects of photography and camera handling. He provided a detailed explanation of essential camera functions, settings, and the role of equipment in achieving precision and clarity in photographs. Rajat emphasised that while creativity is the foundation of good photography, technical proficiency with cameras and lenses is equally important in producing professional-quality work.

The workshop proved highly interactive, with students actively engaging the speakers through questions and discussions. Since photography is an integral part of the curriculum for the participating courses, the students showed keen interest in understanding both the artistic and technical challenges associated with visual media. The interactive exchange allowed them to gain practical insights and helped clarify many aspects of professional photography and videography.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra appreciated the initiative and congratulated the Department of Applied Art for successfully organising the workshop. She noted that such programmes play a vital role in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry expectations. According to her, exposure to experienced professionals enables students to develop practical skills and prepares them for careers in the creative and media industries.

She also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of Mr. Anil Gupta, Mr. Rajesh Kalsi, and Mr. Ankit Goyal for their significant contribution in organising the workshop and ensuring its smooth conduct.

Overall, the workshop proved to be an enriching experience that combined creativity with technical knowledge. By offering students an opportunity to learn directly from industry experts, the event reinforced the college’s commitment to nurturing talent and encouraging innovation in visual arts and media.
