Raksha Bandhan, one of India’s most cherished festivals, symbolises the sacred bond of protection between brothers and sisters. Traditionally, sisters tie a rakhi around their brothers’ wrists, praying for their well-being, while brothers vow to protect them in return. This beautiful sentiment resonates deeply with the role of our armed forces, who dedicate their lives to safeguarding the nation. It was in this spirit that students of Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, celebrated Raksha Bandhan by honouring the country’s real-life protectors.
The school organised a vibrant Rakhi Making Competition, where student crafted colourful, handmade rakhis with love and creativity. These were not just decorative threads, but heartfelt tokens of gratitude meant for defence personnel, police officials, and Border Security Force (BSF) members.

In a touching gesture, the young students tied their rakhis to the wrists of these uniformed heroes, offering sweets as a mark of respect and affection. The exchange was filled with smiles, warmth, and a deep sense of mutual appreciation. The armed forces personnel expressed their gratitude, encouraging the children to cherish values such as courage, discipline, and service to the nation.
The objective of the event was not only to mark Raksha Bandhan but also to instil in young minds the importance of patriotism, gratitude, and the spirit of brotherhood. By interacting with the armed forces, the students gained a firsthand understanding of their sacrifices and dedication.

The festival, thus, took on an even greater significance — moving beyond familial ties to encompass the larger family of the nation. For the children, it was a chance to thank those who keep the country safe day and night, often away from their own families during festivals.
The event concluded with colourful rakhis adorning the wrists of the nation’s guardians, the occasion truly reflected the essence of Raksha Bandhan — a bond of protection, love, and mutual care.
