It was a historic milestone for Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, when it was selected to participate in the 78th Mahatma Gandhi Martyrdom Day commemorations at Gandhi Smriti, New Delhi. The school was the only institution from Faridabad chosen for this prestigious national event, placing it among nearly 40 schools from Delhi and the NCR.
Held on 30 January 2026 at Gandhi Smriti, 5 Tees January Marg, the ceremony carried deep national significance. It was attended by the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, the Vice-president, Shri CP Radhakrishnan, and several other distinguished dignitaries. An interfaith prayer meeting and a musical tribute to Mahatma Gandhi formed the heart of the programme.
Young voices on a historic platform
Five students from Apeejay School, Faridabad, were selected to perform at the event. The team included Sayesha Malhotra, Manvi Pandey, and Kairav Singh Grewal from Class VIII, along with Aditya Arora and Arnav Pandey from Class VII. They were accompanied by their coordinating teachers, Dr Pragati Mishra and Mrs Namrata Bisht.

The students underwent rigorous rehearsals with nearly four hundred participants at the Gandhi Darshan Campus, Rajghat. This preparation concluded with a final rehearsal at Gandhi Smriti, where the gravity of the occasion became real for the young performers.
Sharing her experience, Manvi said, “I feel truly fortunate to have performed at Gandhi Smriti on Mahatma Gandhi Martyrdom Day. Singing in front of the Prime Minister, the Vice-president, and other dignitaries was overwhelming and inspiring. Performing live on Doordarshan added to the excitement. Being part of a disciplined group of students from nearly forty schools, singing together in rhythm and harmony, taught me focus and confidence. After days of rehearsals, standing in the beautifully decorated venue and offering a musical Shraddhanjali to Gandhiji felt meaningful and deeply special.”

Sayesha too was deeply honoured to perform at Gandhi Smriti on the 78th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. “Although I was nervous at first, being seated in the front row with the microphone before me helped me focus. As the performance began, I felt calm and completely absorbed in the devotional songs. Performing in the presence of the Prime Minister and the Vice President made the moment even more meaningful,” she said.
What gave her the confidence was that this was her second time performing at Gandhi Smriti. “The experience taught me the value of discipline, regular practice, and gratitude towards my teachers and school. Watching the performance live on Doordarshan with my family made the experience even more special and memorable,” she stated.

A moment of national recognition
The performance was broadcast live on several national social media platforms, giving the students rare exposure and placing them at the centre of a nationally watched remembrance. For the school, this was not just participation but recognition at the highest level.
All students and coordinating teachers received certificates of accomplishment, marking the experience as a defining chapter in the school’s journey. The event reinforced values of discipline, cultural awareness, and respect for national heritage. More importantly, it showed students what it means to represent their school and city on a national stage, with pride and responsibility.
