Anuj Kumar, assistant professor, Apeejay School of Management (ASM), celebrated the silver jubilee of his paper publications in Scopus, Elsevier’s abstract and citation database, with yet another article published in the International Social Science Journal. This journal is indexed in ABDC Journal-B, Social Science Database, Scopus-Q2, and UGC CARE II.

The article, titled, “Is homestay service an ideal business opportunity for women?”, comprises women’s first-hand experiences in the tourism sector as homestay service providers. For the study, 62 women from Arunachal Pradesh were interviewed to understand their perception of homestay service.

“Homestay service is found to be an ideal profession for married women as it gives them the opportunity to fulfill other family duties, though it is not a compulsion in all cases,” the article mentions. “Women were also found to feel a sense of recognition through such participation in tourism. Participating in homestay services was found to be a source of meeting peers, building social networks, and a sense of exposure to the outside world.”

“The findings of the study will be insightful for implementing schemes related to women’s empowerment and rural development. These findings confirm the mass migration of the rural population towards metro cities can also be curved by engaging more people in tourism and allied businesses locally,” it adds.
