The Photography Club of Apeejay Institute hosted a vibrant and thought-provoking Photography Competition , drawing in budding photographers from across various departments. The event turned out to be a celebration of visual storytelling, self-expression, and creative interpretation, where students were encouraged to channel their observations and emotions through the lens.
To push boundaries and stimulate creativity, the club coordinators provided three unique themes: Street Life in Summer, Construction Site, and Social Expression. These themes were designed to challenge participants to explore everyday environments and human interactions with a fresh perspective. What added an exciting twist to the event was the requirement for each participant to submit two photographs on their chosen topic — one in black & white and the other in color, showcasing their technical versatility and creative choices.
An enthusiastic response was witnessed from students of all departments, reflecting the growing interest in photography as both a hobby and an artistic discipline. Participants stepped out of the campus for two hours to shoot images in real-time, capturing moments that many often overlook. The entries submitted were not just pictures, but silent stories brimming with emotions, contrast, and raw human connection.

Commenting on the experience, Shiksha Singh Negi, a second-semester student of PGDP in Graphic Design, shared, “The event aimed to provide a platform for budding photographers to express their artistic vision through the lens. It encouraged us to engage in visual storytelling and improve our technical photography skills. It was a successful celebration of creativity and diverse perspectives.”
The event also helped students understand the impact of framing, lighting, and subject placement, and how these elements contribute to crafting compelling narratives. By capturing candid shots of bustling streets, under-construction buildings, and fleeting expressions of people, participants demonstrated how photography goes beyond aesthetics and serves as a powerful medium to document life.
Rayyan Khan, a fourth-semester Interior Design student, added, “During the competition, we were given a unique challenge — to step out of the college for two hours and capture impactful images on one of the three topics. The competition promoted photography as an art form and a means of self-expression. We look forward to more such events that give us the chance to tell stories through images.”

The Photography Club successfully created a platform where imagination met technique, and observation transformed into art. The competition not only highlighted the participants’ keen eye for detail but also their ability to turn ordinary moments into extraordinary visuals.
With such enthusiastic participation and compelling outcomes, the event was undeniably a grand success, inspiring many to view the world a little differently — through the transformative power of a camera lens.
