Educational trips bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. Visiting industries, museums, scientific labs, or even natural reserves helps students see how the concepts they learn in textbooks are applied in real life. This not only reinforces their understanding but also ignites their curiosity and passion for various subjects.

One of the primary benefits of educational excursions is the hands-on learning experience they offer. Unlike traditional classroom settings, where students learn through textbooks and lectures, excursions allow students to engage directly with the subject matter.

For the same reason, on Jul 18, 2024, Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park organised an educational visit to the Korean Cultural Centre of India in Delhi for the students of class VII. The trip was designed to immerse the students in Korean culture and traditions, offering them a unique and enriching experience.

The visit commenced with a warm welcome from the staff of the Cultural Centre, followed by opening remarks that set the tone for the day. The students were then treated to a captivating video presentation about Korea, which provided a comprehensive overview of the country’s rich cultural heritage. This initial introduction piqued the students’ interest and curiosity.

One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity to try on traditional Korean attire – Hanbok. The students enjoyed dressing up in these colourful and elegant garments, which gave them a firsthand experience of Korean traditions.

The schedule included engaging in traditional Korean games such as Biseokchagi (a stone-throwing game), Tuho throwing (an arrow-throwing game), and Jegichagi (a game similar to hacky sack). These activities were both entertaining and educational, allowing the students to appreciate the simplicity and joy of traditional Korean pastimes.

A particularly exciting part of the visit was the Taekwondo session. The students participated in a demonstration of this renowned Korean Martial Art, learning about its techniques and discipline. The session not only highlighted the physical aspects of Taekwondo but also emphasised the importance of mental focus and respect.

The students also visited the library, where they explored Korean literature and other resources. This exposure to Korean books and materials broadened their understanding of the Korean language and storytelling.

The culinary experience was another highlight. The students sampled a variety of delicious vegetarian Korean dishes, including Ddangkong Jorim (soy-braised peanuts), kimchi fried rice, Yachaejeon (vegetable pancakes), and Jjapaghetti (instant noodles). This tasting session introduced the students to the flavours and ingredients that are integral to Korean cuisine.

As a special memento, each student received a book of Korean poetry translated into Hindi. This thoughtful gift further reinforced the cultural exchange and provided the students with a keepsake to remember their visit.

The trip to the Korean Cultural Centre of India provided the students with a deeper appreciation of Korean culture and strengthened the cultural ties between India and Korea. The students left with a wealth of knowledge and memories that will undoubtedly enhance their global perspective.
