‘Always remember the motto: Soaring High is my Nature’

He is, at present, working as a Software Engineer at Walmart Technologies Ltd in Bengaluru. The transition from Charkhi Dadri, Haryana, and then going for college in Chandigarh was easy. But moving to Bengaluru was different. Thankfully, many people in the city are from the North. Also, his experiences in school, especially in team sports, helped him adjust. They taught him how to interact, connect, and work with people from different backgrounds.

Meet Akshit Singhal, an alumnus from Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri (batch 2017). In a candid interview, he talks about his journey and how the school prepared him for the same.

How were your school days?

That was a long time ago, but I remember that I participated a lot in various activities, especially sports. I participated in almost all of them — cricket, volleyball, handball, and even the relay races on Sports Day. The whole school used to take part in the parade; full participation was encouraged. I also took part in various Inter-house competitions.

How did Apeejay prepare you for a multicultural or collaborative environment like Bengaluru?

Even though Apeejay Charkhi Dadri had students mostly from the same region, the school encouraged activities that helped us learn how to communicate and work in teams — sports, cultural programmes and debates. I once served as an arbiter during an Inter-school chess competition. These experiences helped shape my personality and communication skills. For example, debates taught me how to structure my thoughts and present them confidently — skills that helped me in college group discussions and placement interviews.

Were there any teachers at Apeejay who left a lasting impression on you?

All our teachers were impactful. Our Social Studies teacher helped us informally with English, correcting us during regular conversations and quizzes. His feedback on our vocabulary and sentence structures stuck with me. Then there was our sports teacher. He often related sports lessons to life: team bonding, leadership, perseverance. He had played at a high level himself, and he shared his experiences with us. Those lessons have stayed with me.

Any message you’d like to share with present students at Apeejay School?

This might sound cliché, but school is genuinely one of the best times of your life. Make the most of it. Be open, communicate with your teachers and parents, and participate in all kinds of activities — cultural, sports, and academic. Even if you don’t excel, you’ll always learn something. Apeejay School focuses on overall development and discipline. If you embrace that, it will shape your personality in the long run. And of course — Soaring High is My Nature! Always remember the motto.
