As Artificial Intelligence (AI) gains momentum, questions and concerns about its impact on jobs have surfaced. The extent of this impact remains uncertain, but it’s evident that AI is reshaping the labour market.
According to recent data from LinkedIn, job listings featuring AI or generative AI have more than doubled globally between July 2021 and July 2023. Some countries like the UK, Germany, and France, witnessed even greater increases, surpassing the 2.2x global average.
This shift is occurring across various industries, according to Olivier Sabella, VP of LinkedIn Talent Solutions for EMEA and LATAM. Roles now range from direct AI development positions like AI engineers to those where AI skills are listed as requirements, such as digital product managers or cybersecurity consultants.
Prospective employees are embracing this trend towards AI integration in the workforce. LinkedIn’s Global Talent Trends report notes a 17 per cent increase in applications for job posts mentioning AI or generative AI over the past two years, compared to those without such mentions.
A LinkedIn survey of nearly 30,000 global professionals further demonstrates a widespread appetite for adopting the latest technology. Globally, 89 per cent of respondents expressed excitement about using AI, though the sentiment varies by country.
