A tribute to martyrs through tradition

The Cultural Club of Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar recently organised a Turban Tying Competition to commemorate Shaheedi Diwas in honour of the great freedom fighters S. Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar. The event aimed to pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence and to instill their values of courage and patriotism in the students.

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation, with students showcasing their turban-tying expertise and creativity. Various styles, including the regal Patiala Shahi, the elegant Amritsari Style, the intricate Morni Turban Style, and the distinctive Vattanwali, were beautifully presented. The vibrant colours and neatly tied turbans reflected the cultural heritage and pride associated with this traditional art form.

The competition was judged by esteemed faculty members, Mr. Gurpreet Singh from the School of Management and Mr. Amarpreet Singh from the School of Engineering. The participants were evaluated based on precision, timing, shape, and overall style. Their skill and attention to detail made the competition a captivating display of tradition and artistry.

Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director of AIMETC, lauded the participants for their efforts and emphasised the importance of engaging in extracurricular activities to promote holistic development. He commended the Cultural Club for organising such an event that not only honoured the sacrifices of national heroes but also helped students connect with their roots and traditions.

The winners of the Turban Tying Competition were: 1st Position – Gurshan Singh (BBA II)  2nd Position – Mannatpal Singh (MBA II) and  3rd Position – Udaykaran Singh (BCA II)

The event was convened by Mr. Daljeet Singh Matharu, Faculty, School of Information Technology, whose dedicated efforts contributed to the seamless execution of the program. The competition served as an inspiring reminder of the rich cultural heritage of India and the significance of turban tying as a symbol of honour, dignity, and identity.

The Turban Tying Competition was not just about aesthetics; it was a heartfelt tribute to the revolutionary leaders who dedicated their lives to the nation’s freedom. By engaging students in such activities, AIMETC continues to nurture a sense of responsibility, respect for heritage, and appreciation for the sacrifices made by the country’s heroes. The event concluded on a note of patriotic fervour, leaving students inspired by the legacy of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, carrying forward the spirit of nationalism and cultural pride.
