In a heartening move towards early safety education, Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, conducted a Subject Enrichment Activity for students of Class UKG. The activity was themed around ‘Family’, and focused on the extremely important topic of Good Touch and Bad Touch. This initiative is part of the school’s ongoing commitment to fostering a secure and emotionally supportive environment for its youngest learners.

Learning through play

The session took place during the interactive circle time, a daily classroom routine designed to build communication and social skills. During this time, students were gently introduced to the sensitive topic of body safety using a play-way method. This approach was chosen to ensure that the information shared was both age-appropriate and easily understood.

Teachers used simple language, clear examples, and an open discussion format to help children grasp the concept of good and bad touch. The intention was not only to inform, but to empower children with the confidence to express their feelings and respond appropriately in uncomfortable situations.

Making learning tangible

To further reinforce the learning, students took part in a role-play activity using dolls. This hands-on experience allowed them to demonstrate what they had learnt, making the lesson not just theoretical but practical. Children were encouraged to enact different scenarios, helping them build a strong understanding of safe and unsafe touch.

This activity helped in developing body safety awareness, while also creating a safe space where children felt encouraged to share their thoughts without fear or hesitation. The use of dolls added a layer of comfort and familiarity, making it easier for the students to participate confidently.

Promoting confidence and communication

Beyond the immediate lesson, the enrichment activity also nurtured key life skills like self-confidence, communication, and emotional understanding. It gave students the vocabulary and reassurance needed to talk about their boundaries — a skill that is vital both at home and in school.

The event highlighted Apeejay School’s focus on holistic development. By starting important conversations early, the school is ensuring that children grow up informed, aware, and supported.

Through such thoughtful initiatives, Apeejay School, Tanda Road, continues to create a nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued, and heard. The Good Touch and Bad Touch activity was a clear example of how meaningful learning can happen through simple, yet powerful methods tailored to young minds.
