A brainstorming session on public policy

Public policy is a complex and multifaceted process and there are several factors that influence it.- These factors include economic conditions, public opinion, interest groups, new scientific discoveries, technological change, to name a few. Moreover, public policy also includes the set of actions — plans, laws, and behaviours — adopted by a government. And different policies also become integral to organisations and businesses.

To discuss the same with the budding leaders of tomorrow, Apeejay School of Management (ASM) in Dwarka organised a guest lecture on the topic “Drivers of Public Policy”.

The session was delivered by Mr Baswan, ex IAS, former Secretary, Department of Education, Govt of India, and former Director, Institute of Public Administration. Mr Baswan, who is also an honoured member of the Board of Governors of ASM, has covered many aspects of public policy, in the international and national domain, in the last few decades.

By using story narrative format, he enlightened the students,  “The world has witnessed several changes post Spanish Flu situation that happened in early 1920’s till the present modern digitised world. Like this, there are various situations that have impacted economies at a global level like the great depression, industrial revolution, World War I and II, privatisation, industrialisation, boom of the internet, and recently occurred pandemic. And with these changing scenarios, rigorous strategies have been formulated to create policies aligned with the given situation and the upcoming future.”

Further, Mr Baswan supplemented the session with various practical aspects to illustrate his narrative vividly. The session was found extremely valuable by the students and faculty.
