Are you planning to study abroad after completing school? Of course, this cannot be done overnight and requires a lot of careful planning. One of the first steps is to decide which course you would like to pursue. To help you, we bring you a list of the top study abroad programmes of 2023 that a lot of students are opting for.
As per the data released by the Indian Government, more than 7,50,000 Indian students went abroad for higher studies last year, in 2022. Recently, Europe has turned out to be a favourite among Indian students for the impressive technical courses it offers, says Dr Sonia Singh, an academician, researcher and director of Toss Global Management. Dr Singh, whose son is a student at Apeejay School, Faridabad Sector 15, has been in the field of career counselling for many years now.
She tells us more about these courses:
Data Analytics
Technical courses are in huge demand, especially in Europe, from Sustainability to Data Analytics. Every top university is offering undergraduate programmes for the above courses. Sweden, France, and Italy are among the preferred destinations for students. Germany is another country where globally ranked universities are offering similar courses, although the application process is very competitive. Knowing German becomes equally crucial to be able to communicate with everyone and thereby gain relevant opportunities. The cost of living in the country can also be very high so students need to make an informed decision.
Project Management
Project management in a total of 12 fields is witnessing increasing demand in universities in the US, which are offering degrees as well as professional certificates at both the bachelor’s and the master’s levels.
Technical Content Writing
This is an upcoming career path that is gaining a lot of traction. And lucrative Technical Content Writing programmes are being offered at top universities in the US. This requires you to first acquire technical knowledge before moving on to writing on a particular subject.
Psychology
Since most corporate organisations now have onboard a counsellor or psychologist to promote employee well-being, this subject is also gaining students’ attention. The subject deals with the study of human behaviour, mental health issues and the complexities of the human mind. To promote in-depth understanding, universities offer access to modern research facilities, specialised programmes and practical training. Criminal psychology is also quite popular.
English
This continues to be a popular choice among students as it opens up diverse career opportunities for them in various industries. This course will always be in demand, no matter the number of AI tools that come up, Dr Singh stresses.
Economics
Policymaking is a stream that is seeing a lot of demand among students apart from Agricultural Economics, Financial Economics and Behavioural Economics. For this, the student needs to have a strong grip on mathematics.
From course effectiveness to cultural differences and safety, there are a lot of issues that need one’s attention before zeroing in on a university. Dr Singh advises the following:
*First, identify your interest and re-evaluate your potential and skills before applying for study abroad programmes to determine your eligibility.
*Do thorough research about the universities you are applying to — interact with your peers and the college alumni to know every detail. It is recommended that you opt for top-ranked universities for quality education and thereby a secure future.
*No matter what career path you aim for, only completing a course is not enough. You have to keep yourself updated with the latest developments and upskill accordingly. That will determine your success, Dr Singh suggests.
