Bharatanatyam, school, and a deep love for Indian classical culture – Pradanya Arora’s journey is a perfect example of how Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, nurtures holistic growth in students. A Class X student, Pradanya recently won the second position at the prestigious Faridabad Talent Hunt organised by Asian Hospital. Her graceful Bharatanatyam performance on Lord Shiva’s story stood out among 75 talented participants. In this exclusive conversation, she shares her journey, love for dance, and how the school has been her biggest support system.
You’ve been learning Bharatanatyam for four years now! What sparked your interest in this classical dance form?
Classical dance, particularly Bharatanatyam, has always captivated me, as it fosters a deeper connection with our culture. It’s not just about steps; there’s emotion, storytelling, and devotion involved. When I perform, especially something rooted in tradition, it makes me feel proud and peaceful. That’s why I’ve stuck to Bharatanatyam instead of any other form.

Tell us more about your recent performance that earned you the second position.
It was based on Lord Shiva. I danced to the song Chandrachur, and it portrayed a divine family scene featuring Lord Shiv, Parvati, and Lord Ganesh. I had performed this piece earlier too, so preparing didn’t take long. But still, I practiced a lot to perfect my expressions and movements. It was a unique experience to perform something so deeply personal to me. My mother was thrilled too.
Who has been your guide in this journey?
It all started with our school’s dance teacher. She’s the one who introduced me to Bharatanatyam. Under her guidance, I’ve performed at various inter-school events and school functions. Apeejay School has always given us opportunities to showcase our talent, whether it’s dance, painting, or academics.
How do you balance your dance practice with your studies?
Discipline is the key. I go to school, finish my homework, and then dedicate one or two hours a day to practice. I attend Bharatanatyam classes twice a week, but the rest I do at home. I also love sketching and painting whenever I find time!
What’s next for you, both in academics and in dance?
Right now, I’m focusing on my Class X studies. I plan to take Commerce in Class XI, just like my father and sister. Dance will continue as my passion. Maybe in the future, I might even take it up professionally.
