In a candid conversation, Shagun, who is pursuing PCB, shares her journey, including her study strategies, sources of motivation, and tips for managing stress during board exams. With inspiring insights into her preparation techniques and the support system that helped her succeed, this interview is a valuable guide for students aiming for academic excellence.

How thrilled were you when you found out you would get a scholar badge?

I was very happy, and in a sense, I was feeling very proud. My exams had gone off well and I was sure to get over 95%. As luck would have it, I scored 96% and highest in Math, which was 98. I also did well in Science and English, as these were among my favourite subjects.

What was your study strategy?

I started from the beginning of the session itself, which made it easier by the end. I followed a timetable and allocated four to five hours daily for focused study. While it was difficult to avoid social media since I used to spend a lot of time on it. But when exams approached, I had to prioritise studying.

How did you keep yourself motivated to study?

My mother is my greatest motivation. She used to study with me whenever I had exams, ensuring she gave me company. My father also provided constant encouragement and helped me stay focused by discussing my goals with me.

What role did your teachers play in your success?

The teachers at Apeejay School were very supportive. They provided moral support, helped clear my doubts, and encouraged me to keep improving.

What was your strategy during exam days?

I solved a lot of sample papers during the exam period. It helped me understand how to write answers, manage time, and prepare for the types of questions that would appear in the exams. I also kept my answers to the point and presented them neatly and cleanly.

What special tips do you have for scoring full marks in Math?

Besides, solving mock papers during the exam I ensured that I used a pencil for rough work and double-checked when I would do the actual sum. This helped to remain accurate and avoid errors.

What other key factors contributed to your success in class X?

Self-confidence and believing in myself were essential. I used to also meditate in the morning, which helped me cope with stress.

What advice would you give to students preparing for their Boards?

Start preparing from the beginning of the session to make the journey smooth. But since we are already two months away from the exams, focus on what your teachers are advising, and follow their guidance. Practice sample papers and revise important topics.
