He casts a spell over the audience each time he grooves and spins. Meet Shreyas who studies in class I at Apeejay School, Faridabad. In a candid interview, he shares how overwhelmed he feels after winning the first prize at the recently held Meraki Carnival.

Read edited excerpts here.

How did you feel after winning at Meraki?

Winning at Meraki was an amazing experience, filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment. The hard work, dedication, and countless hours of preparation I put in paid off. That feeling of standing on stage and hearing my name announced as the winner was exhilarating.

How did you prepare for your performance?

My mother played a huge role in helping me learn dance steps. She patiently went over each move with me, encouraging me to get it just right. Her support and guidance made a big difference, especially when I was struggling with certain steps. Her presence is both comforting and motivating, making the learning process enjoyable and inspiring.

How did Apeejay School support you in this?

Apeejay School has given me a wonderful platform to showcase my talents in front of diverse audiences. Whether it’s performing for my teachers, who guide and encourage me; my parents, whose support is invaluable; my seniors, who inspire me to push my limits; or my classmates, who cheer me on. I’ve had the chance to build confidence and improve with every performance. This experience has not only enhanced my skills but has also given me the courage to step onto bigger stages, knowing that I have a supportive community behind me.

Who is your favourite dancer and why?

Ranbir Kapoor truly brings every dance move to life. His energy and passion for dancing shine through in every performance, making each step feel vibrant and expressive. The actor has an incredible ability to captivate his audience, drawing them into the dance, and making them feel the emotion behind every move.

Do you want to pursue dancing as a profession?

Dancing is just a hobby for me. At present, I love Western dance. And I enjoy it purely for the fun of it. I find joy in learning new moves, practising the rhythm of music, and putting my spin on each step. It’s not about performing on big stages or winning competitions — it’s just a personal passion that brings me happiness and keeps me energised.

What is the biggest teaching from dancing?

Dancing brings a unique mix of benefits that go beyond just having fun; it’s a fantastic way to keep the body flexible and fit. Each movement helps stretch and strengthen muscles, improving balance and coordination.
