According to a recent report, India, with the second-largest active internet user base globally, is witnessing a significant surge in cyber threats. Moreover, the country is currently grappling with a substantial skill gap in the field of cybersecurity, accounting for only six percent of the global cybersecurity job market.

The study conducted by tech staffing firm TeamLease reveals that as of May 2023, there were approximately 40,000 vacant positions in the industry, highlighting the escalating demand for competent cybersecurity professionals. Nevertheless, the report also indicates a concerning disparity between supply and demand, with a skill gap of thirty percent, posing a significant trial for the sector.

The report highlights the growth of India’s cybersecurity workforce, which reached approximately 0.3 million professionals in 2023. This figure demonstrates a significant increase from 0.21 million in 2022 and 0.1 million in 2021. However, in contrast to the global cybersecurity workforce of approximately 4.7 million professionals, India’s representation remains comparatively lower. Similarly, the revenues generated by the Indian cybersecurity sector are estimated at $2.50 billion, constituting a fraction of the global revenue of $222 billion.
