Young minds clash at inter-house chess competition

Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, celebrates strategy, focus, and sportsmanship as senior students battle it out on the chessboard

Competitions play a pivotal role in school life, offering students opportunities to explore their talents, develop confidence, and learn essential life skills. Events like chess competitions foster critical thinking, patience, and discipline, helping students grow intellectually and emotionally while promoting healthy competition and sportsmanship among peers.

Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, witnessed a display of strategy, intellect, and mental agility as it hosted the much-anticipated Inter-house Chess Competition for the senior categories. Conducted over two days, the event featured Senior Girls and Boys competing on two different days. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from students across various classes, turning the chess arena into a battleground of minds. 

Organised under the meticulous guidance of the sports faculty, the event was conducted in a fair and disciplined manner. It aimed not just to test the chess skills of the participants, but also to enhance their logical thinking, decision-making abilities, and concentration under pressure.

In the Senior Girls category, the young minds demonstrated exceptional focus and composure. Each match was a display of calculated moves and strategic thinking. After several engaging rounds, the top honours went to Ananya of Class IX, who secured the first position. Prerna from Class VIII bagged the second position, while the third position was earned by Pallavi, also from Class VIII. 

The Senior Boys category proved to be equally thrilling, filled with intense matches and gripping finishes. Vivek Rajpany of Class XI claimed the first position with an impressive performance throughout the tournament. Gauransh, also from Class XI, secured the second position, while Divyadeep Sangwan from Class VIII took the third position.

The audience, which included students and teachers, applauded the competitors for their strategic brilliance and sportsmanlike conduct. Principal Dr Vineet Vasishtha, who graced the occasion, congratulated all the winners and participants. He emphasised the significance of intellectual games like chess in a student’s academic journey, highlighting how such events sharpen reasoning skills and nurture resilience.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and participants of the Inter-house Chess Competition. The sharp thinking, concentration, and discipline displayed by our students were truly commendable. Chess not only strengthens the mind but also builds patience and strategic thinking. I am proud of the way our students conducted themselves and performed. Such events are vital in nurturing well-rounded individuals. Keep up the spirit, and may you all continue to excel in every field of life,” Dr Vasishtha said.

The Inter-house Chess Competition concluded on a high note, having successfully ignited a spirit of healthy competition and intellectual curiosity among the students. The school remains committed to fostering such platforms to identify and nurture young talent in the years to come.
