His ‘cuteness quotient’ could arguably come a close second to his ‘intelligence quotient’. Advait Kutty, a class 4 student of Apeejay School, Nerul, Navi Mumbai, has secured the 2nd runner up position at the 17th Mumbai-Region State-Level ‘Online Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition’. At the zonal level in Navi-Mumbai, Kutty bagged the 1st runner up rank.
Learning the methodology for the calculations under his father Ajit Madhavankutty’s guidance, he is ever-enthusiastic about exercising the the power of the mind and using numbers. “Advait has been training in Abacus for the past two years. He had been finishing 7-8 sheets of calculations per day close to the competition,” says Madhavankutty, a proud father whose aim is to provide holistic math lessons to his son.
Conducted by UC-MAS India in June, the event witnessed more than 1000 student participants from Maharashtra. The company provides Abacus training with countable beads to children and helps them visualise numbers on a base-10 system. With this technique, students are able to learn and perform arithmetic calculations such as addition and division with ease.
When preparation meets opportunity, success is bound to happen.
