The Interact Club of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, organised an important awareness session for students in classes 4 to 7. The event aimed to educate young students about the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty. By promoting a healthy understanding of their developing bodies, the session sought to prepare both boys and girls for this significant stage of life.
Dr. Rekha Khandelwal, a senior obstetrician and gynaecologist with over 45 years of experience and expertise in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, was the guest speaker for the session. She addressed the young audience and discussed essential topics related to personal and menstrual hygiene. Dr. Khandelwal also took the opportunity to dispel many modern-day myths surrounding menstruation, fostering a more accurate understanding of women’s health.

Ms. Moumita, the teacher in charge of the Interact Club, emphasised the importance of addressing such topics early on, stating, “Raising awareness on menstruation and addressing the stigma surrounding it is essential for fostering an inclusive and supportive society.” The session was designed to be inclusive, targeting both male and female students. This approach aimed to create a supportive environment where students felt comfortable discussing a natural process that is often surrounded by stigma. By fostering openness and understanding, the event contributed to breaking down barriers and misconceptions related to puberty and menstruation.
An interactive segment of the session encouraged students to ask questions, allowing them to engage actively with the topic. Many curious students took this opportunity to pose relevant questions about puberty and menstrual health, which Dr. Khandelwal answered meticulously. “Students openly discussed their concerns with the doctor in an interactive session,” added Ms. Moumita. “It was an enriching session where the young children were given knowledge about the topic and empowered to tackle it in a better and mature way.”

In conclusion, Project Wings proved to be an enlightening and impactful event at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park. It successfully raised awareness about menstruation and women’s health, equipping young students with the knowledge they need as they navigate this important stage of life. The initiative by the Interact Club and the expertise of Dr. Khandelwal played a crucial role in fostering a healthier understanding of puberty among the students.
