Young innovators participate in “Design Thinking Hackathon”
Students from Classes 9 and 10 at Apeejay School, Model Town combine empathy, creativity, and collaboration to address
real-world issues
In an age where innovation and adaptability are vital, Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar has taken a forward-looking step by integrating design-led thinking into its learning culture. The recently held Inter-House Design Thinking Hackathon was a testament to this commitment—offering students of Classes 9 and 10 a dynamic platform to ideate, innovate, and inspire.
Held within the vibrant and collaborative atmosphere of the school, the Hackathon aimed to foster 21st-century skills among students by engaging them in structured, real-world problem solving. The guiding framework was the globally recognised Design Thinking process—Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. Working in cross-functional house teams, students delved into challenges they observed in their school and surrounding community.
Through active brainstorming, students explored meaningful issues—ranging from campus sustainability and mental health to accessibility and inclusivity. What followed was a lively, hands-on journey of building prototypes, conceptualising unique solutions, and pitching ideas to a panel of judges with confidence and clarity.
The event was more than just an academic exercise—it was an immersive experience that brought out the best in each participant. Students demonstrated a mature grasp of teamwork, empathy, design logic, and communication, key traits that form the bedrock of future leadership.
Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar Chandel applauded the energy and originality displayed by the participants. “Events like these ignite curiosity and empower students to become future-ready problem solvers,” he said. “It’s heartening to see such passion and originality from our young minds.”
The Inter-House Hackathon also served as a compelling introduction to design-led learning—an approach that goes beyond textbook knowledge to nurture thinkers, makers, and change agents. As students tackled real-world problems with thoughtful creativity, they exemplified the very ethos of Apeejay education: to learn not just for school, but for life.
In the end, the Hackathon proved to be a celebration of youth-led innovation, where every sketch, model, and presentation carried the promise of a better tomorrow.
