To encourage innovation and practical learning, the Primary Department of Apeejay School, Noida recently organised activity-filled art workshops for its students of classes IV and V. Organised in collaboration with Pidilite and led by Ms Shreya Agarwal, the sessions provided a unique opportunity for students to exhibit their artistic talents by crafting keyrings and fridge magnets.

The workshops started with a very thoughtful introduction that placed a strong emphasis on the importance of creative expression. Ms Agarwal ensured everyone participated actively and walked the students through the basics of Mould-it clay modelling.

According to Ms Smriti Samuel, the Primary In-charge, the Pidilite workshop was a vibrant and enriching experience that sparked the imagination of students and provided a hands-on opportunity to explore the world of art and craft. “The class V students enthusiastically designed and created fridge magnets, experimenting with colours, shapes, and patterns using Mould-it-clay. The activity allowed them to channel their creativity into something practical and visually appealing, fostering both artistic skills and a sense of accomplishment,” the educator said.

Meanwhile, class IV students crafted unique keychains, exploring the versatility of clay to mould intricate designs. “This activity encouraged them to think creatively, pay attention to detail, and enjoy the tactile process of shaping and decorating their creations. The carefully planned workshop not only enhanced the students’ artistic abilities but also boosted their confidence in their creative potential,” she shared.

Navika Sharma, a student of class V-B, sharing her experience said: “Making fridge magnets with Mould-it-clay was so much fun! I loved shaping the designs and seeing them come to life. I can’t wait to try more crafts like this at home!”

With a similar experience, Reyansh Mehra of class IV-D stated: “This was the best workshop ever! Creating my keychain made me feel like a real artist. I was excited to show it to my friends and family.”

Exploratory innovations in art

Facilitated by the expert facilitators, the students created their own chosen designs by using Fevicryl Mould-It. Once the designs were finalised, the creative process progressed to painting. They all enthusiastically added bright colours to their creations, making the work dramatically more eye-catching and vibrant. After the paint dried, the last touches were added as keyrings and magnets were attached to them, making their artworks functional items.

A platform for self-expression

The excitement and joy among the participants were palpable. Each child eagerly showcased their final creation, beaming with pride at their accomplishments. The activity not only nurtured their artistic abilities but also served as a medium for self-expression and exploration of their interests.

The workshops reflected Apeejay School, Noida’s commitment to holistic education. By integrating creative activities into curriculum dispositions, the school provides an opportunity for experiential learning. Such initiatives enhance the confidence of students and help them learn the essential skills to pay attention, be patient, and display innovations.
