Anuj Choudhary is an alumnus of Apeejay School of Management (ASM), Dwarka. He was a part of the 2018-20 batch and pursued a Post Graduate Diploma in Management. He is currently working with Haldiram’s as a Sales Officer. In an exclusive interview, the Sales expert mentions how being in a sales profile is helping him interact with diverse people while building a network that will benefit him in the future. Edited excerpts:

How does a day at the office look like?

I have recently joined Haldiram’s. Before this, I was the Sales Officer in MTR. My professional journey had started with Berger Paints after I got a my campus placement. I had to visit all the shops and observe everything and keep a track of all that was going on in the market. I worked very hard as a salesman. It helped me get the ground knowledge. I worked with salesmen for 4-5 months, and went with them to every market in Delhi. Later, I got promoted as a Sales Officer and was managing the field distribution with 4 salesmen working under my supervision.

So, why did you choose sales as your career?

Sales was my passion from the very beginning. I love public speaking and meeting new people. One gets to know about the world and builds a network that comes handy. Now, in sales, my network is so strong that in every corner of India I know someone from this field.

Tell us about your best memories from ASM days?

The Synergy event was the best memory. We enjoyed that a lot and I used to participate in different activities such as dance and poster-making. I gained a lot of public speaking exposure at ASM.  I gave so many presentations there which improved my confidence level as well.

One life lesson for current ASM students?

When you are getting any opportunity in any company, you won’t get the top profile immediately. That does not happen in the beginning. You have to work at the ground level. With time, in accordance with your skills, you’ll keep climbing the ladder and get better positions. It’ll take time and patience, but you will get a good post. Have faith and keep working hard.

What are your future targets?

Within the next 5 years , I want to become a regional sales manager of a reputed FMCG company.  That is my aim.
