Siddhant Jha is a student of Television and Radio Journalism/Production at the Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC) who brings curiosity and clarity to his engagement with media. With a keen interest in geopolitics and current affairs, he is drawn to storytelling that simplifies complex global issues for diverse audiences. An avid reader and music enthusiast, Siddhant finds inspiration in jazz, classical, indie and rock, as well as in observing everyday human experiences that shape meaningful narratives. In this interview, the budding media professional explains how strong research gives confidence and clarity to his writing. Read edited excerpts:

When did you start writing? What inspired you to begin this journey?

I began writing when I realised that I process my thoughts best through words. What truly inspired me was the power of storytelling—how a well-written piece can inform, influence, and sometimes even change perspectives. My interest in journalism and global affairs pushed me further into writing as a way to question, analyse, and express.

What types of articles do you write? What inspires you to choose those topics?

I primarily write on current affairs, geopolitics, social issues, and opinion-based pieces. I choose topics that feel relevant, urgent, or under-discussed—issues that impact people directly or shape the larger narrative of our times. Curiosity and a sense of responsibility to stay informed drive my topic selection.

Is there a particular time you prefer writing? How do you approach research?

I prefer writing during quieter hours, especially early mornings or late at night, when there are fewer distractions. Research is a crucial part of my process—I like to read from multiple credible sources, understand different viewpoints, and only then structure my thoughts. Strong research gives confidence and clarity to my writing.

What kind of topics or books do you enjoy reading? Any favourite author?

I enjoy reading non-fiction, self-help, geopolitics, and books that explore purpose and human behaviour. Ikigai is one book that left a strong impact on me. I don’t restrict myself to one author—I prefer ideas over names, and I read anything that challenges my thinking.

How are you building your writing skills?

I’m constantly improving by reading extensively, writing regularly, seeking feedback, and analysing good journalism. I also focus on clarity, structure, and simplicity—making sure my writing communicates effectively rather than sounding complicated. Learning from experienced journalists and observing how stories are framed helps me grow every day.
