It’s a full-circle moment when alumni return to their alma mater – not just with memories, but with their children. Varun Narayan Mathur, from the 2003 batch of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, is now a proud parent to Unnati Mathur, a student of KG-A at the same school. In a heartfelt conversation, he shares how his past experiences continue to shape his parenting journey today. Read edited excerpts:
What makes Apeejay feel like the right choice for your family across generations?
I’ve always believed in the values this institution stands for. The warmth, care, and encouragement I received as a student deeply influenced me. Once I had submitted an assignment that was completely off-track, and instead of scolding me, my Science teacher simply encouraged me to rework it from scratch. That simple line taught me resilience, and I carry it with me even today. I wanted the same nurturing environment for my daughter – a place that values curiosity, creativity, and emotional growth.
How does Apeejay balance academics and overall development?
The school isn’t just about academics. It encourages students to explore interests beyond textbooks. For example, during my time, I was encouraged to take SUPW classes. I chose stitching, and it turned out to be a useful life skill, especially during my hostel days. This practical approach to learning continues today, helping children develop holistically.
What role do teachers and parents play in a child’s growth at Apeejay?
Teachers here are not just educators – they are mentors and guides. They genuinely care about the child’s progress. As a parent, staying involved makes a huge difference. I work from home three days a week, and I make it a point to ask my daughter what she learned each day. That simple conversation helps build a strong learning mindset.
Any message for new parents starting their school journey?
Cherish every little moment. Nursery is not just about learning letters and numbers – it’s about emotional growth and building friendships. Be patient with the process and trust the teachers. They know what your child is capable of and guide them accordingly. This journey will be full of joy, growth, and discovery – for both you and your child
