When we think of digital careers today, the mind often jumps to coding, data, design, or analytics. But beneath all these modern tools lies one timeless foundation – writing. Not writing novels or poetry, but the simple, powerful ability to communicate ideas clearly. Whether you’re launching a start-up, running a social media campaign, or presenting a business pitch, writing is the invisible thread holding everything together.
Writing as the foundation of digital skills
Even in highly technical or creative digital roles, words are everywhere. Presentations need scripts, apps need user guides, and social media campaigns need captions that inform, persuade, and engage. Without strong writing skills, these digital efforts lose impact.
Pakhi Bindal, a Bachelor in Journalism and Mass Communication graduate (Batch 2020–23) from Apeejay Stya University and currently a Social Media Manager at WhizCo, reflects on this, “When I started my career in social media, everything began with content. Learning to write clearly and persuasively made all the difference in creating campaigns that actually connect with people.”
Communication is currency
In a digital-first workplace, writing is often the first impression you make. From emails and proposals to LinkedIn posts and project briefs, your ability to articulate thoughts directly impacts credibility. A well-written message builds trust, while a confusing one can undo hard work.
Pakhi adds, “Even as a content strategist, I realised my captions and briefs mattered as much as the visuals. If my words weren’t sharp, the designs wouldn’t shine.”
Storytelling powers influence
The most successful professionals, whether leaders, entrepreneurs, or creators all have one thing in common: they know how to tell a good story. Storytelling isn’t about fiction; it’s about making people care. Convincing investors, engaging audiences, or motivating teams always begins with words.

The future-proof skill
Technology evolves rapidly, but one thing AI can’t replace is authentic human expression. Tools can generate text, but they can’t replicate personal insight, clarity of thought, or emotional connection. Writing forces us to think critically and structure our ideas. Skills that remain invaluable no matter how digital workflows change.
Pakhi reflects, “The better I got at writing during my BJMC years at Apeejay Stya University, the more confidence I had to explain complex ideas simply. That skill continues to help me every day in social media management.”
