Community service finds its true meaning when compassion meets action. Living up to this belief, the Rotaract Club of Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurgaon, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Delhi Premier, organised a heartfelt outreach initiative titled “Shared Smiles” at the Silver Lining Old Age Home. Rooted in the club’s motto — Rise, Lead & Transform — the initiative was designed to create moments of happiness, connection, and dignity for elderly residents, reaffirming the power of empathy-driven leadership.
The “Shared Smiles” initiative was a thoughtfully curated community service activity aimed at spreading warmth and companionship among senior citizens. From the moment the Rotaractors entered the premises of Silver Lining Old Age Home, the atmosphere was filled with anticipation, laughter, and genuine human connection. The event went beyond conventional service, focusing instead on emotional bonding and shared experiences.
A series of interactive activities formed the heart of the programme. Residents enthusiastically participated in engaging games such as tambola and antarakshari, which sparked cheerful competition and nostalgia. These familiar games evoked memories of earlier times, encouraging participation and creating a sense of belonging. Storytelling sessions followed, where the elderly shared personal anecdotes, life lessons, and cherished memories, while students listened with respect and admiration. These conversations bridged generations, allowing wisdom to flow naturally through dialogue.
What truly defined the initiative was the simplicity of human connection. Members of the Rotaract Club spent time engaging in heartfelt conversations, offering companionship, and listening attentively. The joy reflected in the smiles of the residents reaffirmed the belief that kindness does not always require grand gestures—sometimes, presence and empathy are enough to make a lasting difference.
The event was led with dedication by the Rotaract Club’s core team. President Rtr. Srishti Vashisth guided the initiative with sensitivity and purpose, supported by Vice President Rtr. Philip J Dolo, Joint Secretary Rtr. Ayush Bhatt, and Sergeant at Arms Rtr. Aditya Anant, who ensured seamless coordination. The community outreach efforts were spearheaded by Directors of Community Services Rtr. Parnika Mendiratta and Rtr. Daksh Kumar, while Director of Club Services Rtr. Ashish Rana contributed to the smooth execution of the event.
“Shared Smiles” was more than a visit—it was a meaningful exchange of emotions, values, and humanity. The initiative left a deep impact not only on the elderly residents but also on the students, who returned with a renewed sense of purpose and social responsibility. By transforming compassion into action, the Rotaract Club of Apeejay Stya University once again demonstrated how youth leadership can bring about positive and lasting change—one smile at a time.
