WhatsApp is developing a new feature that allows users to create their avatars using Meta AI. Launched in India last month, Meta AI is now accessible across all Meta platforms, including WhatsApp. This AI acts as a versatile assistant, helping users with tasks like finding recipes or generating images. The upcoming feature will let users create personalised avatars through Meta AI, enhancing the interactive experience.
At present, in development, this feature isn’t available to beta testers yet. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp aims to offer more personalisation by allowing users to generate images of themselves with Meta AI. Users will need to take setup photos, which Meta AI will analyse to create accurate representations. These setup photos can be deleted anytime, giving users control over their data.
To use the feature, users will type “Imagine me” in the Meta AI chat or “@Meta AI imagine me” in other chats. This command is processed separately to ensure privacy, and the resulting image will be automatically shared in the conversation.
WhatsApp is also working on a feature to select between different Llama models for AI interactions. Users can choose the default Llama 3-70B model for simpler tasks or the advanced Llama 3-405B model for more complex queries.
This avatar generation feature is optional and requires users to opt in. They must manually enable it in their settings and provide setup photos. This new capability is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to refine user experience and personalisation with Meta AI.
