What Success Means to Me at This Stage of Life

Success for many is an accomplishment or victory. However, to me, it has many meanings. “Sometimes, success means being the first to fail,” said American writer Herman Melville. I can relate to this as I have failed many times. But somehow, I still managed to capture success in the end.

Once in an art competition, although I couldn’t snag a trophy, I decided not to quit. However, I was still given a special prize for my drawing. But what if I got nothing for my efforts? Would I have felt bad? Maybe a little. Still, I would have pleasant memories of chatting with my classmates, interacting with my teachers, and displaying my work.
In the 4th standard, I got marks below my expectations in a subject. I was disappointed in myself. My parents encouraged me to work harder and focus on the subject. In the next exam, I improved a lot. My failure became a success.
Success comes in many forms. At the age of 11, success to me is not only a match won but a feeling of happiness when I help others or put a smile on their faces. Or finishing a book that was a challenging read.
I believe everyone can be successful with a positive attitude. No one should feel that they are not enough. With hard work, everyone has a fair chance to succeed.
