According to Adnan Irshad, Assistant Professor and Academic Coordinator, Apeejay Stya University-School of Legal Studies, being a successful lawyer requires more than just legal knowledge. “It demands a set of core traits that are crucial in this demanding profession. Foremost, critical thinking and analytical skills enable one to dissect complex cases and craft strategic solutions. Equally important are empathy and integrity, which ensure that our practice not only seeks justice but also respects the human elements of each case. Last, resilience and adaptability are indispensable, as the legal landscape is continually evolving. These traits together form the cornerstone of not just a competent lawyer, but a commendable one,” the educator shared.

Here are some key traits that are generally beneficial for aspiring lawyers:

Strong Communication Skills: Lawyers must be adept at both written and oral communication. The ability to articulate thoughts clearly and persuasively is crucial in courtrooms, negotiations, and even when drafting legal documents.
